Why trying to reach perfection is actually holding you back

I always thought I had to reach this perfect state of mind.

No matter how far I'd come, in my mind, it wasn't 'far enough.' I needed to be more, I needed to do more, I needed to have my situation pulled together more.

I was never satisfied with where I was because I was always pressuring myself to 'keep doing more.'

What really changed my perspective was the realization that we're ALWAYS growing. We never reach that perfect place. We get to one level, then the next, then the next, until the day we leave this earth. It never ends–unless we CHOOSE for it to end and stop growing.

I never quite realized how much time I was wasting not appreciating where I was at and how far I'd come–I was too focused on where I (thought I) needed to be.

How can you even enjoy your life if all you do is focus on how far you 'should' be and where you need to get to?

Umm, well... you can't!

There's no final destination, there's no 'when I get here I'll be happy.'

Because the reality of it is that, no matter what, whatever goal you're trying to get to, once you get there you're going to just want something new and have fresh goals.

You're always growing, you're always expanding, you're always evolving. You're never reaching one destination and that's it.

There's always going to be something else.

So, seriously, just sit back and enjoy the ride, enjoy YOUR journey. This saying is brushed off way too much (I have ben just as guilty!)

Life is a constant journey, so appreciate where you are right now and how far you've come and stop and smell the freaking roses for once!

Don't get me wrong, it's OK to be excited and eager for what's to come for you–but it shouldn't be all you think about and the manifestation of it shouldn't be the only reason you can be happy and content. See what I'm getting at here?

Be easy on yourself. Allow yourself to go through the now, and appreciate it, while you're on your way to your desires. I'd bet you'll get there so much sooner!
